FM On Your Cell Phone

A new offering from India is spicing up your cell phone options: the S-570.

Indian-based Spice Mobiles Limited has just launched this new cell phone with integrated FM radio features. MSN.com’s Technology page provides the stats the unit:

Spice claims the phone is a pocket-friendly option that enables users listen to their favorite FM channels through a special one-touch Stereo FM player.
With its 20-channel list and built-in speaker phone, the S-570 makes for a complete FM experience. It has scheduled as well as live FM recording, ensuring you don’t miss the FM program of your choice. You can set it as a ring tone for every time someone calls you, or you can wake up to FM with the FM alarm.
How many have longed, as I have, for a cell phone with a radio receiver built in? For us, this is an encouraging development. Being able to set an FM station as your ringtone seems like an entertaining option, especially when consumers are bombarded with pitches for paid ringtones.
Spice Mobiles Limited describe themselves on their website as:

“… a part of M Corp Global, India’s leading trans-national group. With a strong lineage in the cellular services industry in India, M Corp Global is expanding its business horizon and is all set to revolutionize the “ICE – Information Communication & Entertainment” sector, with its new age technologically advanced state of the art mobile phones (Spice Mobile Phones) for the entry, mid & premium segment. “

The unit is already available in India at a price of Rs 2,999. (That’s US$76.33 according to coinmill’s online currency converter). I was unable to find any information about when we might see the units here in the U.S.
